Oysters and clams have been popular additions to tasty meals and recipes for many years, and for good reason. They add a unique flavor to anything from pasta to rice, making meal time a favorite any day of the year. Here are some of the most common, easy and delicious recipes to try with oysters and clams.

Linguine With Clams

You can make this meal in under 30 minutes! You can use canned clams or you can use fresh baby clams and clam juice.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Cook the linguine as directed.
  2. Prep the other ingredients as you wait for the water to boil.
  3. Sauté a chopped onion and garlic in oil.
  4. Add in some white wine, lemon juice, and one cup of water or leftover liquid from the canned clams.
  5. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Toss the linguine and clams with your sauce.
  7. Enjoy!

Oyster Stew

This is a hearty stew perfect for a chilly summer night when you’re craving something homemade.

You will need:

  • Fresh oysters (pint)
  • Butter
  • Chopped yellow onion
  • Whole milk
  • Half-and-half
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  • Drain juice from the fresh oysters into a bowl and set aside.
  • Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium-low heat.
  • Add chopped onions and cook eight to 10 minutes.
  • Stir in your reserved juices and cook till reduced, about 10 minutes.
  • Add in the milk and half-and-half, and simmer.
  • Stir in the oysters and simmer until the edges start to curl, about eight minutes.
  • Remove from heat and cool just a bit.
  • Season and serve with crackers.

Buttery Garlic Steamed Clams

This recipe only takes 15 minutes, so you’ll be eating in no time after you get home from work!

You will need:

  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 tbsp fresh minced garlic
  • 1 cup of white wine
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 36 little neck clams, scrubbed and rinsed
  • ⅓ cup chopped Italian parsley
  • Lemon wedges for garnish

Instructions

  • Melt 2-½ tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
  • Add the garlic and stir constantly for 30 seconds.
  • Add the wine and lemon juice, bringing to a boil.
  • Add clams and the rest of the butter.
  • Cover and steam until you see the clams have opened (seven to eight minutes); discard any that don’t open.
  • Sprinkle with parsley and garnish with lemon wedges.
  • Serve with fresh bread or on pasta.

Butter and Herb Baked Oysters

For this tasty, warm and delicious meal, you will need:

  • 2 cups uncooked rice to line the pan
  • 12 fresh oysters
  • 1 stick salted butter, softened and divided
  • 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp chopped chives
  • 1 tsp grated lemon zest
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Paprika
  • Chopped parsley
  • Lemon wedges

Here’s what to do:

  • Heat the oven to 425 F
  • Add a layer of uncooked rice to bottom of baking sheet so the shells don’t wobble.
  • Scrub the oyster shells
  • Shuck the oysters and catch the liquid in a bowl.
  • Discard the top shells and put the oysters in the bottom shell with liquid.
  • Melt four tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add in the panko crumbs and stir until lightly browned; remove from heat.
  • Combine the rest of the softened butter with the chives, lemon zest, and lemon juice in a bowl.
  • Top each oyster with the butter-chive mixture, sprinkling each with buttered panko crumbs and paprika.
  • Bake for eight to 10 minutes.
  • Top with parsley and serve with lemon wedges.
